Dave Cragie Design offer freelance 3d Design Services for manufacturers. I work on SolidWorks, and am based in Suffolk, and am happy to work either in my Studio or at the Client's premises as part of a team.

I primarily specialise in Injection Moulding component design, having over 30 years experience working mainly in the UK Display and Product manufacturing sectors. In my work I have gained a working knowledge of all types of plastics decoration techniques, finishes, materials and jointing.

In the last 10 years I have diversified and been involved in designing riflescopes and mounts, along with larger items such as agricultural machinery, building extensions and interior design layouts, and would be pleased to discuss any project with you.

Using my 3D to 2D capabilities I can offer a design procurement service for CNC, laser and waterjet cut and formed profiles in a range of materials.

I have used SolidWorks to model parts since moving into 3D in April 2000. In my role as Component Design Manager at Invicta Plastics Ltd, it gave total control of the design, shot weights, wall thicknesses and the output of IGES, STL and STEP files sped up and streamlined the prototype and tooling process. Plastic bending was possible too, using the metalwork bending package within the software.

It also opened up a whole new world of 3D modelling, and changed my career from working on the bench and at the drawing board, although there is always a place for the 'old way' of prototyping, which I still do from my workshop. I now use my in-house FDM printer for small parts, or work with a bureau service to produce more accurate and larger parts.

Although Injection Moulding is my main speciality, 30 years of working in Midlands based UK manufacturing, producing POP/POS Display, Educational equipment, Toys, Games, Bar Products, Packaging and turnkey trade mouldings has given me knowledge of both materials and decoration techniques. This experience extends to Thermoforming, Fabrication, Metalwork and Card.

I was instrumental in gaining ISO9001 Certification by creating our Design Procedure whilst at Invicta Plastics.

I have been fortunate to work for many Blue Chip Clients such as Cadbury's, Procter & Gamble, Boots, Seiko, Trebor, GSK, The Post Office, The Royal British Legion, Comic Relief, Unilever, Revlon and BP amongst others.
